Our Museum Visit

Today we went to the museum for their annual "Celebrate Christmas Past" program. We
went on a wagon ride, we made a Christmas craft, and we went into the museum gallery for a scavenger hunt. Then we had a cookie and juice and got a treat bag and an ornament to take home. It was very well organized and we all had a lot of fun!

Remembrance Day Program

We had a Remembrance Day program at our school on Thursday afternoon. There was a color guard, a person who played the bagpipes, and a very good video. We had to sit quietly, and four people played trumpets before and after a moment of silence.

Art Folders

Today we decorated our art folders. We had to draw really big pictures because our folders are so big. They were so big that they didn't even fit on our desks, and we had to decorate them on the floor!

Smart Response

Today we learned how to use Smart Response. We read the questions from the Smartboard, then we use clickers to select the correct answer to each question. We each have our own clicker, and the Smartboard tells us when someone forgets to answer. It was confusing at first, but we had a lot of fun, and our grade six buddies were there to help us if we needed it.

Problem Solving

Today we worked on problem solving in math. We had to use the strategy "draw a picture" to find out how many legs three dogs have. We then used pictures, numbers, and words to explain our answer.

Visualizing

Today we had company in our classroom. One of our school division's literacy coaches, Mrs. Robertson, came to teach us how to visualize. She brought us visualization tubes, and we used them to look at objects around the room. She also modelled a "think aloud" for us. It was fun, and doing think alouds and visualizing will help us to become better readers.

Making Words

We started a new language arts activity called "Making Words". It helps us learn how to spell lots of words.
